Discipleship

 “Let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity...” Heb. 6:1

“Grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 3:18

“(God has given)...some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of ministry, so that the Body of Christ may be built up until we all...become mature...like Christ.” Eph. 4:11-13

Jesus said in the great commission: ‘Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.’ We are called not just to decide for Christ but to live for him too. That involves not just works of service but also sanctification and an inner transformation so that we become like Jesus. We commonly refer to this as discipleship.

Maturity means being Christlike in our context. One of the fundamental purposes of church is to “prepare God’s people… until we all become mature like Christ”.
